LS Airport Services is growing alongside the market
Aviation and the economy
Companies’ summary of the month
In January, we celebrated a record year 2024 – 59.5 million passengers at Polish airports and 10.7 million travellers carried by LOT Polish Airlines. This success was possible thanks to reliable ground handling services, including those provided by LS Airport Services, whose operations we take a closer look at in this issue.
We will also examine a broader context – aviation is not just about travel and statistics, but also about its tangible economic impact. How big? How many jobs does it create? How much does it add to global GDP? We will refer to data and research that attempt to answer these questions.
In the “Company news” section, we report on LOT’s new destinations – we kicked off sales of tickets to Marrakesh and launched new routes to Reykjavik and Malta. LOTAMS became Europe’s first authorised Embraer E2 maintenance hub, LSAS won a new customer in Krakow, LST develops MRO projects and supports education, and PAL invests in young talents – not only in the air.

In the January issue of PGL’s Aviation Review, we reported that 2024 marked a record year for Polish aviation. Polish airports handled 59.5 million passengers, and LOT Polish Airlines, which belongs to our Group, carried 10.7 million passengers. Both results were the best ever recorded. However, this success would not have been possible without efficient handling services at Chopin Airport and regional airports. LS Airport Services (LSAS) specialises in this type of service within the Polish Aviation Group, and today we will take a closer look at its activities and planned developments.
In 2024, LSAS handled over 9.89 million passengers and 6.29 million pieces of baggage, which represented an increase of 11 percent and 9 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year. As a result, the number of passengers handled has almost reached pre-pandemic levels. Most of the LSAS’s operations were based at Warsaw Airport.
2024 was a period of intense yet well-planned and executed operational efforts for our Company. We handled approximately 10 million passengers, which is an increase of nearly 1 million compared to 2023. We were prepared both in terms of manpower and equipment to handle the increased passenger traffic.

Aviation has a tremendous impact on the economy – a statement that every representative of the industry would wholeheartedly agree with. But what exactly does that mean? How big is this impact? How many jobs does the aviation industry create? What share of global GDP does it account for? There are some research studies that attempt to assess and estimate this impact.
Later last year, the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), an association of 45 different aviation organisations, published its subsequent edition of the report “Aviation: Benefits Beyond Borders”[1]. The purpose of the report, which is based on analyses prepared by Oxford Economics, is to highlight the actual impact the aviation sector has both on a global and regional scale. To this end, data from most countries around the world are analysed. So let’s take a look at how Poland compares to the rest of the world and the European Union.
