On-board medical emergency procedures – a special training session at PAL.

Did you know that each passenger plane carries an AED, first aid kits with medicines (required during resuscitation, used for alleviating allergies and administered during seizures), as well as oxygen and breathing supporting equipment? Were you aware that flight attendants can use a satellite phone to get assistance provided by an emergency physician?

At the Polish Aviation Academy, we train pilots and flight attendants on a daily basis, but our simulators and infrastructure are also sometimes used by other trainees. At this particular occasion, we hosted members of the Student Emergency Medicine Club from the Warsaw Medical University of Applied and Holistic Sciences who participated in classes on emergency medical procedures in effect aboard passenger aircraft.

The training comprised a theoretical component during which health-related risks that may materialise in-flight flight and the latest ERC 2025 guidelines were discussed, as well as a practical part held in a CEET Boeing 737 simulator. During the simulation, a practical exercise involving a medical in-flight incident was conducted, involving all stages of the procedure – from recognising the symptoms and cooperating with the flight crew, to conducting CPR in the passenger cabin, in accordance with the ALS algorithm.

Such meetings offer professionals from various industries a good opportunity to exchange experiences and make practical use of our simulators.
